From the Farmyard to Home: 10 Coloring Books for Young Animal Lovers

There is something special about animals in a child’s imagination.

A calf can become a character in a story. A sheep can wander through an imaginary meadow. A tiny piglet can become a child’s favorite page. And a kitten can be given colors that no real kitten would ever have.

That freedom is part of what makes coloring such a wonderful creative activity. Children choose the colors, decide how much detail to add, and gradually turn an outlined illustration into something that belongs to them. Coloring can provide opportunities for visual attention, hand control, planning and creative choice—all without requiring a screen.

Today, we’re continuing our Bored Giant coloring-book collection with ten books that take us from the farmyard to some of the animals children know and love at home.

And of course, llamas.

Their unusual appearance makes them particularly well suited to imaginative color choices. There doesn’t have to be a “correct” llama.

🐈 Cats Coloring Book

From the farmyard to the home, cats are animals many children already know.

That familiarity can become the beginning of a creative exercise: what would your cat look like?

And finally, kittens.

Small, playful and endlessly imaginative, kittens are a natural way to finish today’s collection.

A Little More Than Filling In the Lines

Coloring doesn’t need to be treated like a test.

The sheep doesn’t have to be white. The pig doesn’t have to be pink. The cat doesn’t have to look like a cat anyone has ever seen.

That’s where the fun begins.

A child can experiment with colors, notice patterns, create combinations and gradually discover what happens when they make their own choices. Recent guidance on children’s coloring emphasizes precisely this aspect: creative ownership matters more than producing a perfectly colored page.

And because these are animal-themed books, there’s another opportunity hiding inside the activity.

A parent can ask:

Where does this animal live?

What does it eat?

What sound does it make?

What would happen if this animal lived somewhere completely different?

Suddenly, a coloring session can become a conversation, a story and a little exploration of the animal world.

Today’s Collection

From calves and lambs to llamas, cats and kittens, today’s ten books are another part of the growing Bored Giant coloring-book collection.

They’re designed around a simple idea:

Give children a picture. Give them some colors. Let them decide what happens next.
